Megalohori 16000 m2 plot for sale.

85,000 €

Details

This spectacular plot occupies the Eastern approach to Megalohori . Set within a mountainous forested area of outstanding beauty and is right next to the village itself. Furthermore the plot offers great potential for an outdoor activities center, a camping site or eco-tourism development.

At an altitude of 570 m,  Megalochori  is highest on Lesvos, located in an area known locally as the island’s Alps. Owing to this location it is cooler and more verdant than anywhere else on Lesvos. Furthermore the village is a perfect example of a traditional Greek mountain village that continues to enjoy tranquility and simplicity. The nearest main town is Plomari, famed for its ouzo production, which is 14 km by road. All major amenities can be found in Plomari, as well as one of the Aegean’s finest beaches and the Barabayanni museum of Ouzo production.

The land lies in close proximity to the village boundaries.  Formerly it was a farm and summer retreat, with countless fruit trees gracing the terraces and meadows. A stream meanders through its shaded valley and the remains of an old summer house would provide a suitable basis on which to re-build. The mature trees include walnut, chestnut, almond, pomegranate, apple, pear and fig and the natural water supply is reported to be of a high quality suitable for drinking. The plot (16,000 m2 / 4 acres approx) lies partly within the village building zone, however the exact building allowance needs verification.

The original entrance to the farm is situated off the main street in Megalochori, a two minute walk from the center. There are several cafes and tavernas around the village square offering a taste of Greece from a bygone era. Nearby are many mountain paths and the old network of cobbled roads that once linked these mountain hamlets together. The regional administration of Plomari has worked to preserve these to create a unique experience for walkers and hikers. There is also plenty of potential for cycling, riding and climbing nearby.

To fully appreciate the potential of this land it has to be viewed. Please get in touch to arrange a tour.
