Classic stone house restoration project. End of terrace two bedroom house in a quiet part of Polichnitos near the town center.
A fine example of village architecture, the three house terrace was built in the early 1920s to fulfill the obligation of parents to provide houses for their three children.
On the ground floor one enters via an entrance hallway which incorporates the kitchen area. Next to this is the sitting/dining room and at the back is an old store room. Although no one has lived here for many years the downstairs has been maintained and kept clean. There is an original open fireplace in the dining room and a huge antique olive oil storage jar which is embedded in the storeroom floor.
The upstairs comprises two small bedrooms and a very wide landing that takes up over a third of the area. With some well planned redesign both bedrooms could be made much larger.
On the right hand side of the house is a covered passage way that leads to the back yard. At one end is the original external WC and within the yard is a second store room (stone built with corrugated roof). With the exception of the storeroom, the internal decoration on the ground floor is in a surprisingly good state and floors have been laid with a terrazzo. The original kitchen which is part of the entrance hall is quaint and preserves its design and many features from a bygone era.
A new kitchen and bathroom could easily be incorporated in a new area created by joining the inside and outside storerooms.
The entire three house terrace has been completely re-roofed and structurally tied in, so a major cost factor of the renovation has been taken care of already. This really is an excellent property for anyone wishing to take on a restoration project and make a stunning traditional stone house.
